After creating our oil pastel backgrounds, Kindergarten is using cut paper to create collages. These collages, like our backgrounds, are based on 'Starry Night'. We used green paper to create a horizon line. Also, warm colored rectangles to create the basic shapes for our buildings. In Kindergarten we use dots of glue..."Dots, dots, not a lot!" I can't wait to add our details and windows to our beautiful cityscapes!
First grade drew out some amazing Pigeons. Using the basic Pigeon character from the Mo Willems' books, students began to create NEW characters. We have ninja Pigeons, cowboy Pigeons, and even an Artist Pigeon complete with a beret and easel! First grade then made a watercolor resist out of these drawings, using crayon for the foreground and watercolor for the background. We also have word bubbles for this army of Pigeons to tell us what NOT to do in the Art room as we reviewed the Art room rules.
Tuesday September 16th is our curriculum night. If you can make it, feel free to stop by the Art room for a handout! However, if you are not able to attend: you may download the Art room handout by clicking on the linked image below. This week Kindergarten made portfolios for holding our Artwork and have already learned our classroom rules. Now it is time for our first project based on an artist. Who better to begin with than Vincent Van Gogh? We will drawing the background for a cityscape based on the Starry Night. Kindergarten has now used oil pastels! Look at our mark making and use of line. This is going to be a great year!
