Second Grade has been working on creating multimedia city paintings. They used marker, oil pastels, and tempera paint. These paintings will soon be turned into reflections. Keep watching as we create our city reflections. If only I could actually visit some of these creative cities!
Our color mixing project is on display outside of the Art room. First Grade has finished our color primary and secondary color project. This project was based on the book below. Great job First Grade!
First grade began by reading the book, 'Mouse Paint'. Then we drew three mice. One for each of the primary colors: Red, Yellow, and Blue. Students cut out these mice and glued them to a black background. After our mice were glued to their background, we made a color wheel. While making our color wheel we mixed the primary colors together to make our secondary colors: Orange, Green, and Purple. Then mouse footprints were added using our secondary colors. Can you see the mice running off of our papers?
Second grade did a wonderful job finishing their 'Blue Dogs'. Not all of our dogs were blue, they were complimentary colors. These were colors opposite on the color wheel. What a wonderful display we had in the hallway!
Just outside of the Art room we have our very first Kindergarten Art display! How proud we are of the the amazing cutting and gluing skills our Kindergarten students have shown. I can't wait to see where we can go from here...here comes the paint!
After creating our oil pastel backgrounds, Kindergarten is using cut paper to create collages. These collages, like our backgrounds, are based on 'Starry Night'. We used green paper to create a horizon line. Also, warm colored rectangles to create the basic shapes for our buildings. In Kindergarten we use dots of glue..."Dots, dots, not a lot!" I can't wait to add our details and windows to our beautiful cityscapes!
First grade drew out some amazing Pigeons. Using the basic Pigeon character from the Mo Willems' books, students began to create NEW characters. We have ninja Pigeons, cowboy Pigeons, and even an Artist Pigeon complete with a beret and easel! First grade then made a watercolor resist out of these drawings, using crayon for the foreground and watercolor for the background. We also have word bubbles for this army of Pigeons to tell us what NOT to do in the Art room as we reviewed the Art room rules.
Tuesday September 16th is our curriculum night. If you can make it, feel free to stop by the Art room for a handout! However, if you are not able to attend: you may download the Art room handout by clicking on the linked image below. It contains the Grade level Course Focus Statements along with basic info on how to find links to the Art room. Any questions please feel free to contact me.
This week Kindergarten made portfolios for holding our Artwork and have already learned our classroom rules. Now it is time for our first project based on an artist. Who better to begin with than Vincent Van Gogh? We will drawing the background for a cityscape based on the Starry Night. Kindergarten has now used oil pastels! Look at our mark making and use of line. This is going to be a great year!
